The Program for the Development of the Private Sector
(PDPS) is within the framework of the European Union community
policy of support for the process of economic transition in Tunisia.
The overall objective of the program aims to improve
the competitiveness of Tunisian Small and Medium Size Enterprises
(SMEs) preparing them to meet the challenges and to seize the
opportunities presented by the Tunisian-European Union Association
Agreement.
In this context, a financing agreement and an amendment
to this agreement were signed respectively on March 6, 2000 and
December 14, 2001 between the European Commission and the Tunisian
Ministry of Commerce.
Euro-Tunisian Enterprise (ETE) identifies, elaborates
and prepares assistance and training actions that benefit Tunisian
SMEs and support organisms. The ETE is, as well, responsible for
the organization, for the management and for the follow-up of
the short-term missions of experts recruited for this purpose.
In order to achieve the major objective of improving
the competitiveness of Tunisian SMEs, the PDPS focuses on reinforcing
the capabilities of Tunisian enterprise council and assistance
structures, notably to develop:
- New services and competence of benefit
to SMEs.
- New methods of assistance to SMEs within specialized support
structures, notably in the areas of R & D, quality and standardization.
To this end, Euro-Tunisian Enterprise has assisted
the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tunis by mobilizing experts
for the creation of the chamber's web site.
